Dunbar Commons: will convert the Dunbar Elementary School, located in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, into 52 apartment homes for seniors.  The school building was constructed in 1922 and is the last remaining elementary school in the city having served the African American community under segregation policies in effect prior to the mid-1960’s.  Because of this and its architectural significance, it has been declared eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places.  Commonwealth will transform the two-story brick building into a vibrant senior community, with amenities including: a recreation center, a fitness room, laundry facilities, a management office, a storm shelter, and outdoor gardening area.  Not only does the property renovation preserve a unique community asset but will offer the first elderly tax credit development for this northeast Oklahoma neighborhood located within one and one-half miles from downtown and one mile from the University of Oklahoma medical center.
