Commonwealth Breaks Ground on Two New Projects in North Carolina & Wisconsin

August 28, 2025

A little rain didn’t dampen the excitement at the August 5th groundbreaking for Fairhaven Meadows in Brevard, North Carolina! This much-anticipated development will bring 42 affordable homes — offering one-, two-, and three-bedroom floor plans — to working individuals and families earning between 40%-70% of the area median income. Beyond quality housing, Fairhaven Meadows will offer residents a clubhouse with a community room, business center, fitness center, and outdoor amenities such as a picnic pavilion and playground, where neighbors and children can gather and play.

Additionally, August 27th was the perfect weather day to celebrate another groundbreaking ceremony, this time for 700 Grand in Wausau, Wisconsin! Once complete, 700 Grand will bring 50 new affordable homes within a four-story midrise building. In addition to spacious and high-quality housing, residents will enjoy a community room, fitness center, business center, on-site management office, outdoor play area, and an underground parking structure. North Central Community Action Program will also operate within the office space to provide resources and supportive services to residents and neighbors.

Both events drew strong support from local and state elected officials, partner organizations, and community leaders. Together, we celebrated not only the official start of construction but the marking of an exciting step forward in creating more affordable housing and vibrant communities.
