St. Peter Place Grand Opening

WHEDA, Commonwealth Development Celebrate Grand Opening of St. Peter’s Place

Fond du Lac, Wis. – Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority (WHEDA) Executive Director Antonio Riley joined Commonwealth Development in celebrating the grand opening of St. Peter’s Place, 50 East 1st Street, Fond du Lac, on August 31st.

The 46-unit facility will provide affordable, independent and assisted living options to mostly low- to moderate-income seniors. In 2008, WHEDA allocated $8.3 million in Low Income Housing Tax Credits to the development, which used the existing St. Peter’s church and adjacent school. In addition to rehabbing the existing buildings, Commonwealth Development built new construction to create additional units. The company is also relocating its offices to the former church portion.

“This development really is a win-win situation for the residents of Fond du Lac,” said Executive Director Riley. “We’re proud to be part of providing some very necessary housing for the seniors of Fond du Lac, while at the same time creating construction jobs on this project.”

In addition to the federal tax credits allocated through WHEDA and purchased by the National Equity Fund, financing for the project came from Johnson Bank in Madison and Hometown Bank in Fond du Lac.

Amenities include parking, a community room, beauty and barber shop, library, resident computer center, media center room, business center and exam room. Assisted living services include meals, weekly linen service, housekeeping, medication administration, transportation arrangements and 24-hour staffing.

Commonwealth has partnered with Lutheran Home and Health Services (LHHS) to provide a quality and affordable housing option for independent older adults wishing to age in place, as well as those requiring supportive care. LHHS has been providing quality healthcare and housing services in Fond du Lac for more than 70 years.

St. Peters will be licensed as a Residential Care Apartment Complex - or RCAC. This will allow residents to receive up to 28 hours per week of supportive care, including licensed nursing care, therapy, activities, medication management and more. These services will be available on an as-needed basis, and will allow residents an ideal setting to age in place.
